AFTER the euphoria of picking up their first win in 21 matches, Lancashire Hawks were brought back to earth with a bump at Fife Flyers on Tuesday.

After beating Cardiff Rage 13-4 in front of an ecstatic home crowd on Sunday, a depleted Hawks side were no match for the powerful Scottish outfit who ran out 14-7 winners.

Now player/coach Jim Pennycook will be hoping he can get his walking wounded on the ice again for Sunday's home clash against Peterborough Pirates in the latest round of the play-offs.

Despite the goal-scoring return of Jeff Daniels after the Canadian spent a month on the sidelines with injury, the Hawks desperately missed the services of Neil Abel, Colin Downie and Tom Burridge. All three are struggling to be fit for this weekend's encounter.

However, the win against Cardiff, which was worth four points, lifts the Hawks from the foot of the play-off league and also lifts morale in the camp after ending a losing streak that stretches back to December 23 when they beat Kingston in the Northern League.
