ATHERTON COLLS were literally just two inches away from a precious victory against Warrington Town.

With the score standing at 1-1 and just seconds remaining full-back Gary Crompton intercepted and let fly from fully 25 yards.

Agonisingly the ball hit the outside of the upright and Colls had to settle for just the one point.

Warrington took the lead on 25 minutes against the run of play but within a minute the score was level when midfielder Colin Davies hooked shot over his shoulder and caught the visitors' goalkeeper off his line.

ATHERTON LR's away fixture at Haslingden fell foul of the weather and was postponed.

HINDSFORD drew 2-2 at Ambassadors, Matt Toone scoring both goals.

He gave Hindsford an early lead. But, after losing Craig Briggs and Warren Keefe with head injuries, they lost their way and it needed a late strike to draw level.

LEIGH ATHLETIC were good value for their 1-1 draw at Rochdale St Clements.

There, in the cold, they went ahead from a fierce corner. But Athletic, missing two key plays, then took charge and two good headers from Neil Summer and Steve Kidd tested the defence.

With time running out Rob Lysons slid home a deserved equaliser.

Athletic Youth drew 3-3 at leaders Lymm HSA with goals from Johnson, Melling and Vandenburg.

On Saturday (2.30pm) Athletic are at home to Smithills.
