RODENT rage got the better of a fed-up resident who dumped a dead rat in front of shocked council staff.

Mr John Knowles, of Dorset Drive, Bury, said he was so angry at the lack of council action to clear up rubbish near his house, that he had no choice but to kick up a stink.

He says that for years people had been using a piece of green space to dump rubbish including mattresses, sofas and other trash, which has become home for vermin.

Last week he took the rat to the council building Craig House.

"I was told that the rat could not be left there, I just told them 'well I have to live with them'.

"The rats run round the garden and nothing was really ever done to clear up the rubbish." Soon after the incident, council contractors arrived to clean up the area.

"When I tried to phone up to complain all they did was pass me from department to department. It was the last straw, I had no choice but to take the rat to them," said Mr Knowles.

He says the area has been visited and cleaned frequently after his last-ditch attempt to get the rubbish removed.
