Halton Simms Cross 20 Haydock 18 HAYDOCK lost this match in a disastrous first 15 minutes, when they found themselves 14 points down.

They were guilty of dropping the ball too often and Simmies capitalised after three minutes with a converted try.

Haydock struggled to get into the match, playing against a strong wind.

And they fell further behind when slack tackling allowed the Widnes side to score in the corner.

Straight from the kick-off Haydock dropped the ball and Simmies cashed in with another try. For the first half-hour it was all Simmies, but after that it all changed.

Haydock started to control the ball better with Green, Lowe and O'Garra making headway.

Green went close to scoring and Haydock kept the attack going and Shaw fed O'Garra who touched down near the posts. Ireland converted.

After the break Haydock hit back Bloor made a tremendous break before passing to Ireland who ran 25 yards to score. His conversion brought Haydock to within two points of their rivals.

But with 10 minutes to go more slack Haydock tackling allowed a Simms Cross forward to go over for a converted try.

But Haydock did not give up and with three minutes left winger Owen went in for a good try converted by Ireland.

Best for Haydock were Lowe, O'Garra and Green.
