West Park Bramhope 15 West Park St Helens 7 PARK bowed out of the National Provincial Insurance Cup at the quarter final stage at the hands of their Yorkshire namesakes after a below par display just when they needed to be on top form.

The home side relied almost exclusively on dominating the lineouts and retaining possession by using rolling mauls at which Park were regularly penalised for a variety of offences.

The Bramhope goal kicker Peter Lloyd was given several opportunities to kick for goal and was successful four times in the first half and once after the interval when the St Helens side had the advantage of wind and slope but could not add to their first half try by flanker Gareth Kenwright who was driven over the try line after good forward play by Steve Bibby and Cy Latu, Chris Glynn converting.

Park had their attacking opportunities but misplaced passes and all too frequent turnovers after the tackle presented the initiative back to their decidedly ordinary opponents and a free passage into the semi-final.

On their normal form and at Red Rocks the Park would have more than likely won but once again their fallibility away from home and most of all across the Pennines let them down again.

Next Saturdays trip across to the Isle of Man to meet Vagabonds in the league will be no cakewalk.

Other Saturday results: West Park Bramhope 2nd 17 West Park 2nd 18, West Park Bramhope 3rd 28 West Park 3rd nil, Yarbury 4th 17 West Park 4th 10.
