ST HELENS North MP Dave Watts has challenged one of his political rivals to a public debate.

Rainford Tory Tony Brown, who is standing for a seat on St Helens Council had asked the Labour man to "live up to his rhetoric" during a recent feature in the Star (Feb 19). And Dave has now taken up the gauntlet. He said: "Tony Brown claimed he was going to 'nail the lie' on the local budget. I have now written to Tony, inviting him to make his case in public in Rainford and to give me the chance to make mine.

"I welcome the oportunity to compare 18 years of Tory rule with one year of Labour Government." The meeting will take place at the Golden Lion pub on Church Street, Rainford at 8pm next Monday, March 9 and all Rainford residents are invited to attend.
