AN elderly couple were terrorised by a brutal intruder who broke into their Newton home while they were in bed.
He got in through a back window of the house in Collingwood Road at 7am on Saturday after the elderly man, who slept downstairs, awoke to discover him standing at the end of his bed. The intruder picked up a walking stick and ran upstairs where the wife was sleeping.
He then ransacked her room and, when she woke up, he threw the stick at her, hitting her on the arm. After searching the house, he left empty-handed, leaving his two victims extremely shaken.
He was white, in his 20s and about 6ft tall. He wore blue jeans and a bob cap and had a scarf pulled across his face.
