A CASH injection of £6,500 has been awarded to Wyre Borough Council as a major boost for the arts in Fleetwood.
Residents have the National Heritage Arts Sponsorship Scheme - known more simply as the Arts Pairing Scheme - to thank for the help.
The cash aid was given following a partnership between the council and Lofthouse of Fleetwood Ltd - the home of Fisherman's Friend.
Already there have been guidelines set for how the money will be used, such as extending the scope of public art on the esplanade, putting on an exhibition based around the Welcome Home statue and producing a leaflet in co-operation with Anita Lafford, the sculptor.
Majolica, a Manchester based company, is currently working with the council to pursue new design ideas for paving to enhance the area.
The pairing scheme is funded by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and managed by the Association for Business Sponsorship of the Arts (ABSA), which exists to encourage partnerships between businesses and the arts.
Commenting on the award, ABSA director-general Colin Tweedy said: "ABSA is delighted to announce this award, which is a major boost for Wyre Borough Council.
"Lofthouse of Fleetwood's support for the project is an excellent example of an effective business sponsorship."
