BLACKPOOL is all set to get an insight into the life of legendary cabaret entertainer Marlene Dietrich, at the Grand Theatre.

SiM- n Phillips plays the title role in Marlene and brings her back to life in this revealing view of the woman and her shows.

So what is it like stepping into the shoes of a legend?

SiM- n, speaking to the Citizen from Dublin, said: "It's very difficult. I have to sing 15 songs each performance and I'm on stage practically all of the time. But I like doing it. It's a part I enjoy playing.

"I would like to say It's my favourite part, but I don't have one. I would hate to have to do the one thing all of the time."

SiM- n is by no means a stranger to the limelight.

At just 18 she became a newsreader for the BBC, progressed to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and started an illustrious career that has so far reaped two BAFTAs among other awards.

Marlene was nominated for the best actress in a musical and best show at the last Olivier Awards and is currently on its second tour after a six-month stint in the West End.

"It's a very difficult show to categorise," continued SiM- n, "You can't say it's a musical, a play, a one-woman show or a review.

"We just call it a tribute to Marlene as it covers all aspects of her life."

Marlene opens on March 9 at 7.30pm and runs for six nights. Matinees are at 2.30pm on Thursday and Saturday.

Tickets priced £7.50 to £19.50, with usual concessions, are available from the Grand's box office on 290190.
