AMNESTY International USA is considering adopting an inmate at Lancaster Castle as a 'prisoner of conscience.'

The human rights organisation is looking at the case of Stephen Booth, a Lancaster man serving three years for 'conspiracy to incite others unknown to commit criminal damage unknown.'

Booth, who edited a radical anarchist magazine, was controversially jailed in November following a three-year police investigation. His supporters claim that he has done nothing wrong and has been imprisoned for his "thoughts and beliefs."

If successful, the philosophy graduate will join a list of people 'imprisoned by totalitarian regimes' around the world. To support the application write to Amnesty International USA, 322 8th Avenue, New York, NY 10001, USA.
