BURY boxing star Ady Lewis is set for a return to the ring in April.

The Mighty Atom has been back in training for three weeks and details of his first bout since his European Flyweight defeat in November will be announced by his team shortly.

But it looks certain that Lewis will step up in weight for this next fight. Whether he is ready to move to bantamweight on a permanent basis will depend on his performance.

Manager/coach Jack Doughty said: "We are unsure whether he should remain a flyweight as it is a problem getting him down to that weight.

"We are trying to fix something up for April. It will be at a few pounds over flyweight level to give us an indication as to whether it is the right step for him."

Lewis's British title will not be on the line in the fight. He does not have to make a defence for some months yet.

The comeback bout is likely to take the form of six or eight three-minute rounds.

"He does not need to push anything at the moment. We haven't decided if we are giving up the British title yet, it will depend how comfortable he is with his weight," added Doughty.

Lewis lost to Frenchman David Guerault in the European championship clash in November.

He has since given up his Commonwealth crown because he had too many title defences to make.
