THERE was lots of cheer at brewery, pub and restaurant giant Whitbread this week with the announcement of a 12 per cent rise in profits to more then £354 million.
The group's turnover topped £3.1 billion in the 12 months to March. The company employs more than 800 staff in East Lancashire at its Samlesbury brewery and Shadsworth drinks distribution centre.
The firm is investing more than £2.5 million in its Lancashire sites in the coming year, including an extension at its Shadsworth site which will create 16 jobs.
