PROPERTY developer Dransfield has revealed that it will be showing off two new proposals for a Safeway superstore in the Fylde just weeks after being told Ashton Gardens is not for sale.

And the Citizen can exclusively reveal that one of them will be an out-of-town development.

Mark Dransfield said: "We met with the town centre working group and are looking at coming forward with two developments for Fylde council to see.

"One will be an in-town development and we'll do our best for the town in the plan.

"The other will be an out-of-town development, so the councillors will be able to see both.

"That's going to take its course over the next three months as there's a lot of consideration to be put into them."

Spokeswoman Barbara Pagett wrote to land agent Roy Pugh, slamming the new approach.

She stated in her letter: "How dare you have the sheer effrontery to presume that you can conceivably be in a position to dictate further negotiations in respect of any purchase of any part of Ashton Gardens following the democratic decision taken by the council on May 21."

Safeway spokeswoman Tracy Hostler reacted with surprise to the new approach.

She commented: "As far as Safeway is concerned, the council voted against the sale of part of Ashton Gardens so there is no plan to rejuvenate St Annes from us.

"Because it is a developer-led site, the developers will no doubt want to make something happen.

"But as far as we are concerned, we can't build the scheme we proposed.

"We haven't made a decision yet as to what we will do in St Annes and we are currently reviewing the position."
