KIM Rostron beat France's Gwladys Nocera to win the British Womens Open Amateur Championship and secure a place in the Curtis Cup team - and then celebrated with a cup of tea.

The Clitheroe golfer pulled off a sensational 4 and 3 to capture the coveted crown in atrocious conditions at Little Aston in Birmingham.

It was the greatest win of the 24-year-old's career so far and confirmed her place on the Curtis Cup team to play in Minnesota, America, in August.

"I am absolutely thrilled. It is the greatest moment of my career without a doubt," said Rostron.

"I had been playing well all week.

"And when it came to the final I drove well and my iron shots to the green were all going close to the flag.

"And I was managing to hole my putts when I needed to."

Rostron had accounted for England star Fiona Brown 2 and 1 to book her place in the final.

And she then raced into a two hole lead after seven holes against Nocera.

Birdies at the 11th and 12th put her four up with six to play.

But she then bogied the 13th to slip back as Nocera rallied and the pair halved the 14th.

Rostron held her nerve though and birdied the 15th to secure her first ever British Womens Amateur Open Championship.

"The conditions were terrible. The groundstaff had to go around ahead of us to sweep the water off the greens.

"When I got home on Saturday night I just wanted to put my feet up and have a cup of tea.

"And to get picked for the Curtis Cup team caps it off brilliantly."

Rostron will now jet off to Spain on Saturday to link up with the rest of the Curtis Cup team for squad training.
