COLNE'S First Mayor's Scouts are in line for a £600 grant from Pendle Council to help put right damage caused by vandals who ransacked their premises.

The donation is among several "one-off" payments totalling £7,480, recommended for approval by the council's grants to outside bodies sub committee.

Another £900 goes towards the cost of setting up a Society for Asian Disabled in the borough, with £700 earmarked for South Valley Children's Action Group, towards the cost of repairs and replacements.

Colne's St John's Ambulance Association is recommended to receive £600 to help with the purchase of communications equipment. The Tidy Britain Group is set to get £300 toward the cost of running the North West In Bloom competition and £1,000 will go to the Building Bridges community project to create better links between faiths and cultures.

Another £1000 goes to Colne Parish Church's Open Door project, £300 to Age Concern, Barnoldswick and £280 for the group's work in Trawden.

Nelson's Ithaad Advisory Service will receive £600 in addition to a rental grant already received from the council, while Pendle Multiple Sclerosis Society is poised to get £800 for computer equipment.

Councillors are being recommended to turn down grant bids from Colne Gala Committee, Colne and District Credit Union, Nelson Royal British Legion and marriage guidance group, Relate, among others.

Under the regular grant applications heading, the committee is being asked to make the following donations: British Trust for Conservation Volunteers - £1,500; South Valley Children's Action group - £350; Burnley, Pendle and Clitheroe Victim Support - £990; Pendle Twinning Association - £1,500; Barnoldswick WRVS - £1,500; Community Council of Lancashire - £212; Lancashire Partnership Against Crime - £250.
