AS Tom Bromley (Letters, July 6) pointed out, his right to good health is a priority. Yet despite huge research resources in animal experiments, we are not a healthier nation.
If we are to change the situation we must invest resources in human-based epidemiological research into the cause of illness, be these genetic, environmental, nutritional or social in nature.
Whether we support or oppose vivisection, animal research has not produced the hoped-for cures.
Responsible citizens who show concern for laboratory animals will always be accused of lacking compassion for their fellow man when, in reality, this is far from the truth.
