BURNLEY police have launched an investigation into the finances of Burnley's Last Night at the Proms event after complaints that agencies and artistes have not been paid.
The £17-a-head Bank Holiday spectacular in Towneley Park attracted around 1,000 paying customers and featured TV personality Tony Robinson and international opera diva Sarah Walker.
But today Don Dawson of the Stockport-based Dawson entertainments agency, which booked the artistes, said neither he nor other contractors had been paid.
It is understood many thousands of pounds are outstanding.
Mr Dawson said all efforts to contact the organisers, Burnley-based Alex Markham and Greg Knowles, had proved fruitless.
Mr Markham's phone was "unobtainable" today.
A Burnley police spokesman said inquiries were taking place following complaints.
He added inquiries were in their early stages and a statement would be made in due course.
