HAYDOCK CC suffered their first defeat in six outings against bottom-of-the-table Dalton on Saturday.
They suffered a blow minutes before the start with the loss of the Cross brothers.
And worse followed as early wickets tumbled.
Anthony Croston, a late call-up, was top scorer with 27 not out as Haydock slumped to 99 all out.
The bowlers tried hard to defend the small total. Andy Bentham took 1-5, Darren Mathews 1-17 and Barry Greenwood 1-13. But Dalton passed the total for the loss of four wickets.
The second team, fared much better in their home game with Dalton.
Alan Lever led the way with a vintage 73, Scott Pickavance made 58 and Barry Cross hammered an unbeaten 50 as Haydock rattled up 225-4.
The Haydock bowlers got to work straight away and Barry Jordan claimed 4-27 and Alan Lever 2-18 as Haydock dismissed Dalton for 99.
