SIR, - Like Councillor Peter Callow, I too would like to see Blackpool's landaus trotting off into the sunset for humane reasons.
They may well be part of our Victorian heritage, but in this day and age they are nothing more than a pitiful sight, working alongside modern day heavy traffic, breathing in deadly exhaust fumes for hours on end and enduring all the noise.
Over the years Blackpool has moved with the times in every aspect, except for landaus and beach donkeys.
They are the only left-overs from the past.
It is time the animals' health and safety were considered.
There are many more ways of earning a living nowadays and there are sanctuaries which would be more than willing to let the horses and donkeys live out the rest of their lives in peace and contentment.

Moor Park Avenue,
