BEING made redundant proved to be the spur that put David Johnson in business. David, of Haslingden, decided to use his 20 years retail experience to launch his own venture earlier this year.

His Consumer's Choice shop, in Clitheroe, stocks household goods and toiletries.

The store, run under licence from Neild Distribution has only been trading for four months but now employs four people.

David set up his venture through ELTEC's FirmBase business start-up programme and with help from Ribble Valley Enterprise Agency.

"Setting up a business can be very rewarding but it is not without risks," said David. I got financial and training assistance and advice on preparing a proper business plan."
