A WOMAN wept as she told of a "terror attack" when a man tried to rape her.

The alleged victim said she was dragged by the hair, bitten, punched and thrown on to the floor by Andrew McCoskery, 39, as she tried to get him to stop.

McCoskery, of Richmond Avenue, Cliviger, denies attempted rape.

The woman said McCoskery grabbed her by the hair, put his hands over her mouth and started dragging her into a house as she screamed and struggled. His fingers went into her mouth and he pushed her in through the door. She went for the couch and put a cushion over her, but McCoskery pulled her off the couch and on to the floor.

The woman told the jury she curled up in a ball as the defendant shouted and screamed at her and ended up with her head wedged into the wall. She put her hands up to her face, but McCoskery told her to take them away.

She said: "I tried, but I couldn't. He bit my arm. I pulled my hands down and tried really hard to calm down. His face was in my face. Something had changed. He was different. I couldn't see anger in his face. I don't know what I could see. It was really scary."

The woman said she tried to move away, but McCoskery had hold of her head. She said the defendant then pushed forward as though he was going to have sex with her. She then heard banging on the door and heard the police shouting "are you all right?" She shouted for help. The aggrieved said McCoskery was doing his trousers up as officers came though the door.

She added: "When police came in, I was on the floor just wearing a t-shirt hanging off me. The police said 'what's going on?' and I said 'what does it look like?'"
