A MOTHER-of-two tried to smuggle a drug to her prisoner boyfriend in a packet of sweets.

Georgina White hid five tablets of temazepam when she went to visit her co-habitee, who was in custody at Colne police station, Burnley magistrates heard.

White, 25, of Hargreaves Street, Nelson, admitted possessing a Class "C" controlled drug with intent to supply.

Her case was adjourned until February 15 for a pre-sentence report and White was bailed on condition she lives at her home address and co-operates with the probation service.

The court reduced her outstanding fines of £3,200, imposed mostly for motoring matters to £150.

Geoff Ireland, defending, said White's long-term co-habitee had drug problems. He had gone into custody and was suffering withdrawal from heroin, but tablets to try and help him sleep and "relieve the boredom of spending the weekend in custody".
