UNLIKE some of your other motoring correspondents, I would object strongly to the indignity of being breathalysed when I have not been drinking and have committed no traffic offence.

Why should I be treated like a criminal just for driving my car?

Other offenders destroy lives, too. Housebreakers, rapists, urban terrorists and the like should be equally rigorously targeted. What are they getting up to when so many police are pulling in thousands of innocent people?

Reducing the limit for all drivers would not prevent further tragedies being caused by the criminal irresponsibility of a few, who must be made to suffer much more severe penalties. This would be an effective deterrent, as would a more visible police presence in all areas of our lives.
