A MAN from Great Harwood is being held in Rotterdam and questioned by Dutch police as part of an investigation into a £12 million international drugs ring, it was revealed today.

He was one of two men arrested following an incident near Breda in Holland when a police car was rammed by another vehicle and guns fired.

A spokesman in Rotterdam confirmed the man was still being detained and helping with inquiries although he has not been charged.

He said: "We are still questioning the two men because we want to know where these drugs have come from."

Following the incident last Friday, police recovered 310,000 ecstasy tablets and 100 kilos of amphetamine paste in 13 large sports bags.

Three Uzi sub-machine guns with silencers and ammunition, a pistol and a kilo of cocaine were also seized. Earlier this week a man was arrested in the Brownside area of Worsthorne, Burnley, by armed officers from the National Crime Squad as part of a lengthy investigation into drug trafficking into the UK. He was later released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Other people were arrested in Lancashire and Yorkshire on suspicion of conspiracy to import controlled drugs and related offences although no drugs were found during the British raids.
