AFTER many talks with the older residents of Heysham Village it's time comments were made about the high-handed attitude of Heysham Neighbourhood Council.

As the council is at pains to point out there is a serious problem in the village from youngsters in the square and bus station in the evening. Following a knee-jerk reaction to the problem council members removed the seating in the bus shelter! Had this been done by the young people, cries of vandalism would have echoed throughout the village and the police would no doubt have been called. But the perpetrators of this action are obviously above all this. This action did not solve any problem of course with the teenagers involved all it did was create another problem in a community with a large number of older residents who have lived in the village all their lives and whose families have lived there for generations. Now there is nowhere for these people to sit and a lot of ill feeling has been brought into the village by this short-sighted and selfish action. Those who descended on our village in the past should remember that some families have lived here for generations and you were welcomed into the community when you came here. So why do you have to take matters into your own hands now and make decisions affecting our community?

The meetings you hold are not well attended probably because only the opinions of the committee are deemed to be worth acting upon. Talk to the older residents, try to work with the community. Let's see better communication from you and then we can all work together as a community.
