A PRESTON travel agent has offered his football team a once-in-a-lifetime chance to shoot their way to New York.

Fulwood Travel Centre FC were promised by their sponsors that every goal they scored this season would put 50 miles on the clock towards a dream trip to the Big Apple.

And the team, who play in the Myerscough Five-a-side Premier League, almost had their chairman reaching for his wallet earlier than expected after notching up 600 miles with a 12-2 win in the first game of the season.

Club sponsors Martin and Joyce Noonan said: "We wanted to give our team an incentive to win as many games as possible and I think a trip to New York should do that.

"If it means they go on to win the league then it shows it's a worthy cause, but goodness knows what I'm going to offer them next season."

The couple added: "We like to look after our team and if they score enough goals then we'll keep to our word."

Kevin Peachey, the club's leading goal scorer, said: "As soon as the lads found out about the trip they got their maps out to see how far away it is.

"After the first match we reckon we just about made it past Dublin but we're confident we can make it to America."

To get to New York - 5,000 miles away - the team must score at least eight goals in every game and so their twelve-goal haul has put them well on target after just one match.

And their post-goal celebrations have had their crowds in stitches as they impersonate an aeroplane in flight every time they hit the back of the net.
