A YOUNG mum has told of her heartbreak after her partner's death in a freak accident on Saturday.

Roger Brimelow, aged 39, died after suffering serious injuries as he changed a huge tyre on an earth moving machine at the site of Manchester Airport's second runway.

The self-employed, qualified tyre fitter (pictured) was working under contract to Tyre Fix of Prestwich, Manchester.

Workmates heard a loud bang and saw him lying with a tyre on his chest. He was unconscious and they were unable to revive him.

Mr Brimelow was taken to Wythenshawe hospital where he died a short time later.

Jeanette Doyle, aged 30, told how she had first met Roger five years ago when he was working in a bar in Tenerife where she was holidaying.

And she revealed that the "caring, hard working" man had only been able to move to Leigh last year, to spend more time with her and her two young sons, Daniel, seven, and Andrew, four.

Fighting back tears, Jeanette said: "He was a wonderful, lovely man. He was absolutely brilliant with the children. He treated them as his own and they loved him as their dad.

"Apparently he'd been taking a tyre off. There was a bang and the force of the tyre sent him backwards and it landed on top of him.

"When the police came round I was just shocked. We're all devastated. I was able to go and see him in the Chapel of Rest.

"That helped me but it was very difficult at the same time. I stroked his head and gave him a kiss. He was so good to me and I loved him so much."

Family and friends are now rallying round Ms Doyle and her two sons at their home in Henrietta Street, Leigh.
