SEVENTY pubs and clubs in Prestwich and Whitefield are calling time on troublemakers.

And a new framed poster, now featured in each of the bars, spells out the fact that unruly patrons face a three-year ban.

If they commit acts of vandalism, damage or drugs offences, they face being barred not just from the pub or club they happen to be in, but from all 70.

Bury police have funded the printing and framing of the eye-catching posters.

They spell out each premise's membership of the scheme and the action which will be taken to exclude troublemakers. The posters state that both the police and the licensees will seek to obtain a minimum three-year exclusion order from the courts for those convicted of violence or drugs-related offences.

The successful "Pub and Club Watch" has been organised by the police in conjunction with the licensed trade in Prestwich and Whitefield.

The scheme is split into four areas and members meet regularly to tackle issues such as crime, public disorder and trade issues.

Now the scheme is being extended to other areas within the Bury division.

Commenting on the posters, a police spokesman said: "We have stood the cost of the printing and framing for each of the 70 posters which have now been distributed to the pubs and clubs.

"The idea is to suggest to someone that if they behave in an inappropriate way in a pub in either Prestwich or Whitefield, they'll probably have to go a long way to get a drink in the future."
