THE St Helens McDonalds JOL celebrated its 80th anniversary with success in the Flanders Cup international tournament in Belgium.

The under 12s, 14s and 16s all reached the finals of their repective competitions. The under 12s won their event; the under 14s won on a penalty shoot-out - but the under 16s lost a penalty shoot-out.

A league spokesman commented: "This was a tremendous performance. The lads were great ambassadors for the town and for the JOL. They did us all proud."

And the success continued when the under 12s beat Walton Kirkdale 3-2 in the final of the Liverpool CFA Cup at Liverpool FC's Melwood training ground.

The local lads led 2-0 at the break, thanks to goals by Smith and Marsh.

But Walton Kirkdale fought back to level terms after the break. And with eight minutes to go, Marsh scored the winner.

Ryan Parsonage was also in fine form for the JOL. RESULTS
