THE impact of new health, safety and environmental laws will come under the spotlight at a special seminar later this month.

The event is being staged by Bury's Business Environment Association (BEA) and will be held at Bury FC's Starkies Suite on Wednesday, April 28, from 3.45pm to 6.15pm.

The seminar is designed to provide delegates with an update on such laws.

Those attending will hear directly from the regulators, their perspective on how forthcoming and existing legislation will be enforced, as well as being able to ask questions.

Bury BEA stress fines, prosecutions, and legal and civil proceedings are on the increase for companies falling foul of the mass of regulations now in place.

And they warn that companies have a duty to keep abreast of these regulations and to enforce them to escape potential legal action.

Speakers will include Mike Kinsella, Bury BEA manager, and Paul Spurrier of the Health and Safety Executive.

Also attending will be Liz Bowen of the Environment Agency, a representative from Mason's Solicitors, and Ian Holmes from Sigerson Associates.

The event will conclude with an open forum and buffet.

Anyone wishing to book their place or to get further details can contact Bury BEA on 763 4185.

Next Friday (April 23)the BEA is hosting a free breakfast briefing at its base at Link House, Walmersley Road, Bury.

It will benefit companies providing or using equipment at work and those involved in carrying out lifting operations or using mechanical lifting aids.

The briefing will focus on the impact of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998. For details, ring the above telephone number.
