A MAN thought police should give him a lift home when they found him drunk in Blackburn Road, Darwen.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Christopher Woodward got his lift but not to his intended destination - he was arrested and taken to the police station.

Woodward, 19, of Artington Road, Darwen, was bound over in the sum of £100 to be of good behaviour for six months. A charge of being drunk and disorderly was withdrawn.

Paula Grogan, prosecuting, said police on patrol in the early hours of the morning saw Woodward with a couple of friends who were helping him because he was very drunk. "He wanted the police to take him home and when they refused he became abusive," said Miss Grogan.

Kevin Preston, defending, said Woodward was ashamed to be before the court and apologised.
