BRITISH Civil War enthusiast John Bentley is so batty about the 17th century he's converted his loft into a Puritan shrine!
The 55-year-old father can often be seen wearing striking costumes from the era and now plans to pass on his extensive knowledge to others.
"I've always been interested in history. For a long time, I was involved in the railway scene but I'd took that as far as I could so I decided to start researching something else," explained the council commissionaire of Shorrock Lane, Mill Hill, Blackburn.
"I find it fascinating that a sleepy village like Tockholes was the scene of great carnage, savage warfare and and butchery. "There are also a lot of myths surrounding East Lancashire which I have been able to dispel."
John is a friend of the Sealed Knot Society and hopes to get involved in the Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council 17th century week to mark the new millennium.
His first booking is with Bolton Metal Detecting Club where he will shed light on the significance of many objects members have found in the area.
He added: "I have been researching the period for two years and have managed to accumulate quite an impressive collection of artefacts and books.
"The loft is my sanctuary away from the world and it helps inspire me with my work.
"I want to do lots more presentations, especially to children who I think can learn a lot when this era is brought to life.
