A DEPLETED Lancashire Lynx side slumped to their eighth defeat in a row as Workington Town made short work of them in this 36-8 rout.

Graeme Close, who scored 26 points in the game at Victory Park, was again a major problem for Lynx.

The opening score came from winger Mark Wallace who romped home after Close had created the opening.

After that, it was one-way action for most of the half. Close made the next try, this time passing to Jenkins who sped over the line for an easy try.

Lynx managed to get on the score-sheet after 30 minutes with a Danny Jones penalty which he repeated on the stroke of half-time.

Close himself darted over from 25 metres making it 24-4 at the break.

The second half was more of the same with Lynx trying their hardest to stop the powerful runs from Town's forwards.

After Jenkins scored a super try, sub Mike Dempsey crossed the line and Evan Cochrane converted to complete the home-side's tally.

Lynx scored nothing more than a consolation three minutes from time when Neil Alexander sprinted across the line unchallenged.

The result has left Lynx languishing third from bottom in the Northern Ford Premiership - and the side has worryingly conceded 446 points in the space of 13 games so far this season.
