VERSATILE Burnley athletes Chris Green and Colin Bailey competed for Lancashire in the Inter Counties Multi Event fixture at Carlisle at the weekend. Seventeen-year-old Chris set no fewer than seven PBs in the senior boys decathlon, with Colin, who is 15, setting four new marks in the intermediate heptathlon. The Lancashire team finished second.

Burnley AC were without Colin when they travelled to Cudworth, near Barnsley, for their McDonalds Boys League fixture on Sunday. Halfway through the match there was a severe downpour which caused abandonment, and the officials are still not sure how the match points will be allocated.

Before the rain fell, in-form Under 15s Simon Bissell once again showed his throwing prowess, this time in the hammer and shot rather than the discus. Simon threw Grade One distances in both events, recording 44.5 in the hammer and 12.53 for the shot. Ian Sturdy won both of the corresponding B events and also took first in the B javelin.

The only track winner was Jonathan Hunter in the under 15 3000m A race, whilst P Thompson took the under 17 long jump.

Result - Under 15: Simon Bissell (hammer A 1st, shot A 1st), Ian Sturdy (javelin B 1st, shot B 1st, hammer B 1st), Lee Cunningham (long jump B 2nd), Simon Wrigley (javelin A 3rd), Simon Woods (long jump A 2nd, 200m A 2nd), Jonathon Hunter (3000m A 1st). Under 17: P Gledhill (hammer A 2nd), P Thompson (long jump A 1st).
