TWO major blazes in the centre of Darwen, one of which wrecked the controversial old Co-op building, were being investigated.

In the Co-op blaze nearby buildings were showered with burning embers.

Shortly before the Co-op blaze, firemen were called to St Regis UK, locally known as Hollins Paper Mill, where about 50 tons of baled waste paper were alight.
