BUDDING cricketers from across Preston have been celebrating the end of term with the annual round of competitions.

Archbishop Temple High School took on Broughton High School in the Year Eight final.

Broughton were all out for 103, a total Archbishop failed to meet as they completed their allotted 25 overs on 90-9 - making the result a reversal of last year.

But despite losing, some individual players at Archbishop put in excellent displays, not least Robert Parker (pictured), who took a hat-trick of wickets to win bowler of the game.

Several of his team-mates also performed well, including Gary Birkett, who hit 26 not out, and Ian Milltench who made 21 no.

Tom Kershaw of Broughton won the batting award with an unbeaten 26, while John Peters won the fielding honours.

The Houghton Shield had to be abandoned at the first attempt due to rain, but when things finally got going Our Ladies RC High School scored 183-6 from their allotted 25 overs before Ashton On Ribble High replied with 161-8.
