MY wife and I recently visited the south coast and the lovely walled city of Chichester.

We went to the local tourist information office to buy a book on local walks and inside we picked up a leaflet extolling the virtues of Bury! What a super place it is to visit, with its superb shopping centre where, according to the leaflet, anything can be bought, there's lots of cafes and bars, and the LF's museum.

You can ride on the East Lancs Railway up the picturesque Irwell Valley to Rawtenstall and there are lots of friendly local people. So far so good - but then the leaflet goes on about there being lots of "reasonably priced town centre car parking". What a joke!

Whoever compiled this leaflet has a greater imagination than Bury's own Richmael Crompton of "Just William" fame.

By the way, a full day's car parking in Chichester, in a multi-storey car park complete with toilets and linked to the pedestrianised centre by an elevator walkway, costs just £1.50. Enough said!
