BURNLEY MP Peter Pike is taking up the case of a 17-year-old girl who was allegedly raped while on holiday in Turkey.

The teenager, from Burnley, was holidaying with a friend and had got into what she thought was a registered taxi to go back to her hotel in Bodrum.

But she has told relatives how she was driven to waste ground where the assault took place.

She was flown home yesterday..

A Foreign Office spokesman confirmed they had been made aware of the allegation but because the girl involved was not a British national they had advised the family to contact the authorities in her home country.

The Turkish police are investigating the incident.

The incident follows an attack on Blackburn teenager Brennan Clemance, who was slashed with a bottle outside a Corfu nightclub.

Mr Pike said: "On the face of it, the incident was absolutely outrageous. "This incident and the recent case of Brennan Clemance emphasise the need for young people on holiday to take care.

"I am extremely concerned. This is a very disturbing incident.

"My 17-year-old constituent must be very distressed.

"She has seen her dream holiday turn into a nightmare and it could affect her for the rest of her life.

"I shall be seeing her family on Monday and if the facts are as I understand them it is an absolutely outrageous incident.

"Young people are at risk on holiday.

"When I have the full details I shall take up the issue with the foreign office and the Turkish authorities. I would hope that the Turkish police will pursue this matter with vigour."
