Lancaster City 1 Arbroath 2 CITY manager Tony Hesketh is confident of signing two or three of the trialists in this match during the next couple of weeks.

But he was "disappointed" to miss out on the signing of hot property Brian Butler to Leigh RMI this week.

Said Hesketh: "I've had good talks with some of the lads including Phil Horner from Southport, Kevin Barnes and Scott Sugden and others who would be useful additions to our squad.

"I think I can say we will be making improvements in the next two weeks."

Some of those trialists showed character in this match after going a goal down almost straight away. The Blues equalised after half an hour. John Kennedy stepped back to take a free kick 20 yards out with a four-strong wall in front of him and, curled the ball around the wall and into the bottom left corner of the net.

Just two minutes into the second half and City were down again. A neatly chipped ball and some clever off the ball movement allowed Arbroath to completely bypass City's defence, leaving their French trialist, Frederick, through to blast the ball past Sharrock.

The Dolly Blues were once again raise to the challenge and came close to

equalising several times. In the end it wasn't to be but Hesketh won't be too bothered. This was an encouraging performance.

Team: Thornley (Sharrock 45), Abram, Graham, Kilbane, Baldwin,

Wojciechowicz (Pollitt 54), Parkinson, Cheal, Diggle (Ward 83), Ward

(Carter 70), Kennedy.

Entrance for Lancaster City's two big remaining friendlies have been reduced to £3 for adults and £1.50 for OAP's and children. They take on Blackpool on Wednesday night and Bolton on Friday, July 30.
