THE 'once in a lifetime' event of the eclipse will be seen for the second time by my age group. At the eclipse in 1927, I was a pupil at Clayton-le-Moors Council School and a number of us were taken by coaches to the top of Birdy Brow, Chaigley, to watch this happening.

We were provided with special eye shields and advised on their use.

It was rather awesome when complete darkness came, but it was a memorable incident.
