LEIGH RMI manager Steve Waywell pulled off a surprise by signing another striker for his side's final pre-season friendly against Clitheroe when he snapped up Prince Moncrieffe from Hyde United.
But once again defensive frailties let him down in a 2-2 draw after they had taken the lead.
Mick Wallace's pin-point corner was headed home by Simon Kay. The woodwork then rescued Clitheroe with Steve Jones striking both posts and Brian Butler rattling the bar.
Turning round with just one goal in the bag was poor reward for their endeavours and it cost them dear when poor defending conceded similar goals from set pieces.
But when Liam Carr was brought down in the box Stuart Locke levelled from the spot.
Waywell now has a clear week to prepare his squad for the trip to Blyth Spartans for the opening game of the season on Saturday.
