LEIGH loan star Paul Anderson will play no further part in his hometown team's push for the Super League.

Back row forward Anderson missed out on Sunday's 66-6 spree over Oldham with a knee injury and has now been recalled by Sheffield Eagles.

It's a massive blow for Leigh coach Ian Millward who had tried to persuade opposite number John Kear to allow the player to stay until the end of the season.

"It really doesn't make much sense to me to force a player to go back and play where he doesn't want to be," said Millward. "Paul's enjoyed his time with us and fitted in really well.

"But, at the end of the day, Sheffield are in the position to call all the shots.

"There's nothing we can do about it, only keep tabs on the situation and hopefully do something about it in time for next season." Millward is also facing the prospect of being without utility back James Arkwright for a long spell.

He was carried off against Oldham with a slight knee dislocation and ligament damage and is on crutches.

"We won't know the full extent of the damage until he's been seen properly by the medical people," added the coach. "But he looks like being out for some time."

With Arkwright's injury in mind, the Leigh boss is really to step into the transfer market before tomorrow's signing deadline.

"I'll be making another move for a half-back," he said. "It looks like the proposed swap deal with Oldham is dead but I think we have a chance with one of our targets from earlier in the season.

"The lad's been training with us for a few weeks now and we're likely to make an attempt to buy out his contract."
