NORWEB announced the axing of 1,200 jobs - more than a fifth of its workforce.
And a spokesman said the company couldn't guarantee jobs would not be affected at the major Whitebirk depot in Blackburn and other sites in East Lancashire. Norweb blamed price cuts forced on it by industry regulator OFFER for the job losses.
