I THINK one of the reasons why businesses in Darwen are closing down is because people are keeping away from the alcoholics in town.

Most of them sit outside the market hall. People are beginning to feel intimidated with it all.

With their bad language and shouting, while swaying about with cans in hand, people don't want their children growing up to think that's what life is all about.

I saw signs in Cornwall and York this year warning of £100 fines for people caught drinking alcohol in alcohol-free zones. Why can't we do something similar?

Darwen is becoming more like a ghost town every day. We must do something about it without delay.

A LIGHTBOWN (Mrs), Stanley Drive, Darwen.
