I AM amazed that any politicians can advocate the legalising of cannabis.

Tobacco was initially hailed as the panacea for all known ailments. Now, it is supposed to be the cause of most life-threatening ills.

Tests on cannabis have shown that it destroys brain cells. Its effects, unlike alcohol, persist for four or five days and a person under the influence of cannabis would be in no fit state to drive a car.

Back in the Sixties, an American professor got a group of students to carry out a simple repetitive task.

After smoking cannabis, they never achieved the same degree of competence at the task that they had prior to smoking it.

A lot more research is needed before cannabis can be unleashed on young people.
