AN amateur singer is hoping to make a record to raise funds for kidney disease sufferers.

David Navin, 30, of Chapel Street, Rishton, has been inspired by the struggles of his partner Jackie Navin against ill health.

Jackie, a 37-year-old mother of four, had to have a kidney removed more than 16 years ago and still suffers from health problems. David, a former bus driver who now cares for Jackie full-time, often sings and performs at local clubs and music bars.

The couple are so devoted to each other that Jackie had her name changed to Navin.

Jackie said: "When I was 21 the doctors discovered I had a tumour and cysts in one of my kidneys and they had to be removed.

"There is always the danger that my other kidney could become infected and then I would be in serious trouble.

"Since then I have suffered from arthritis and asthma but I still want to do something for the people who looked after me at the Royal Liverpool Hospital."

She added: "Most people collect money for cancer charities and there is nothing wrong with that but the problem is kidney patients often get overlooked.

"David and I both wanted to do something about the situation and we came up with the idea of a charity song."

Jackie writes songs in her spare time and she has put together the ditty which will be sung by David.

The couple are now looking around for help to try and get their project off the ground as quickly as possible.
