MORECAMBE striker Justin Jackson has landed a five-figure sponsorship deal with Umbro, it was announced today.

The deal, which will see Jackson wearing boots and clothing bearing the sportswear giants name, is the first of its kind outside major league football, and is seen by some as a sign of things to come.

The agreement will allow Jackson to wear Umbro's "Speciali" boot, already made famous by Newcastle United's Alan Shearer.

Jackson expressed his delight at the signing. He said: 'I'm honoured that Umbro has given me the chance to further my career and represent such a high profile brand.'

The deal demonstrates a move by clothing companies towards increased commitment to grass roots football, and recognition of 'the beautiful game' at all levels.

'It's great that Nationwide Conference players are finally being recognised for their ability and future potential' Jackson added.

If the sponsorship proves to be a success, it could pave the way for all manner of deals for different clubs and players.

Chris Ronnie, Chief Operating Officer for Umbro commented on this increase in support: 'We are completely committed to investing in the football players of tomorrow, and feel that it's vital to support and recognise players outside the major leagues.

'This step forward marks the first stages of our long term strategy to reinvest in the game at grass roots level.'

The five-figure deal will span three years, and should prove to be a major coup for the Shrimps.
