COUNCIL bosses have agreed to sell Accrington's covered market to an investment firm owned by Jack Walker.

The Blackburn Rovers owner's property management firm, Bilsdale Properties Ltd, is considering investing £1.3million in a new town centre shopping complex.

Hyndburn's policy and resources meeting last night made a behind-closed-doors decision to allow the Leeds-based company to buy into the proposed scheme.

Members agreed to commit to legal agreements with Bilsdale and developer Helical retail Ltd.

Bilsdale is set to seek approval from its trustee clients to buy the market at a meeting next week.

Detailed plans of the market square development are expected to be submitted soon and planning permission will be considered by the development services committee.

The town's 1960s covered market is set to be swept away and replaced by a new market, a major retail store and other smaller shops.
