STEVE Davis is backing the Clarets to pass their screen test and get their promotion challenge back in top gear in front of the television cameras on Sunday.

Having dropped two points from a winning position against Brentford on Saturday, Burnley are looking to chalk up their fifth win in six homes games against Scunthorpe United.

And with the game being served up as Sky Sports' Sunday lunch-time offering, Davis admits there could be no greater incentive for Stan Ternent's men.

"Saturday was disappointing but we've got to pick ourselves up for the weekend," Davis insisted.

"It will be a big test and we'll see how we do on the television.

"You're not going to win every game and hopefully the luck will even itself out over the course of the season.

"And to use the old cliche we will be concentrating on the next game which is Scunthorpe. And with it being on the telly it adds a bit of spice."

Having flirted perilously with the drop last season, Ternent has masterminded an impressive recovery to take his side up among the Second Division's early pace-setters.

And Davis is relishing the chance to show a wider audience how far the Clarets have progressed.

"You know there are going to be a lot of people watching and you want to give a good account of yourselves as a team. "And especially with the start we've had, being near the top of the league, we want to show everyone we are a good side and someone to be feared," he said.

Burnley will start as hot favourites to beat a Scunthorpe side finding it hard going following their promotion via the Third Division play-offs last season.

And a win is crucial for the Clarets, who could slip a couple of places following Saturday's programme, with any entertainment for the armchair fans being a welcome bonus on top of that.

"Before Saturday's game we were looking for six points from the two games.

"But we can't get that now so we definitely need three on Sunday," Davis insisted. Young supporters under the age of 16 can watch Sunday's game for £1 from the North Stand lower tier, provided they buy their ticket by Saturday.

Burnley's youth team launch their FA Youth Cup campaign away to Mansfield Town tonight.

The Clarets youngsters have hit a rich vein of form in the Youth Alliance North-West Conference. However, coach Terry Pashley will have to ring the changes as the Youth Cup is restricted to under-18s, which rules out first-year professionals John Williams, Alex Kevan and Eammon Kelly.

Pashley will therefore call on a number of youngsters who attend the Clarets centre of excellence and includes four 15-year-olds in his squad.

Burnley youth: Paxton, Pilkington, Fogarty, Savage, Davis, Leary, Barrett, Bowden, Shandran, Clarke, Waine. Subs: Eaves, Barker, Davis, Licastri.

Former Burnley striker Kurt Nogan has been linked with a move from Preston North End to Second Division strugglers Blackpool, although the Seasiders have so far played down any interest.
