UNITED won this battle of the roses after overcoming East Moor of the West Riding County Amateur League first division in the Yorkshire County Cup, but worringly they have still to register a clean sheet this season.

Barlick deservedly ran out winners, to progress into the second round but if the scoreline suggests a close game - there was a gulf between the sides.

Keeper Mitch Walker did not have a single shot to save in the Barlick goal and both East Moor goals came from sloppy defending from the home side.

United took an early lead through the reliable Paul Corrigan - his eighth of the campaign - and before the interval they had all but booked their place in the next round when, Paul McDowell scored his seventh.

A poor defensive blunder left the big Yorkshire striker with the easiest of chances to bring his side back into the game.

Barnoldswick made a double substitution, bringing on Zaf Iqbal and Adie Adnan for the tiring Daniel Terry and Nasser Iqbal. This move brought about the third goal, Zaf scoring a delightful goal from close range. Barlick again let the visitors back into the game and had to endure a frenetic last 10 minutes.

Once again a failure to clear the ball allowed the East Moor team a corner and they scored to again.

Man-of-theMatch on the day went to McDowell for another superb all-round display.

Barlick are on their travels this week with two away games within four days. Tomorrow night they make the short journey to Burnley to take on Burnley United at their Barden School ground (kick-off is at 7.30pm), and on Saturday they visit Leyland Motors FC (kick-off 3 pm).
